HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment for Men who have Sex with Men in Africa

From February 14 to 16, 2012, the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief’s (PEPFAR) most-at-risk populations technical working group, with additional support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), conducted a regional workshop in Johannesburg, South Africa on HIV Prevention among Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM) in Africa.

The workshop brought together 150 participants from 22 African countries to provide a forum to disseminate the 2011 PEPFAR Technical Guidance for Combination Prevention for MSM. This venue also allowed implementers to share state-of-the art knowledge on relevant topics in HIV/AIDS prevention among MSM for practitioners, health service managers, civil society and community. The presenters focused on some of the most challenging areas that drive the HIV epidemic and discussed interventions to help share the response in the African context.

Presentations from the technical consultation can be found below. The meeting report is currently in development. Contact us to receive email notification when it is posted.
