Toronto Welcomes Forteen Iranian Gay Refugees from Turkey

Dear friends,

IRQR would like to thank all of you for your dedication and support to our cause. Without your help it would not be possible to accomplish the work we do. We are pleased to announce that fourteen of our members who have fled Iran to Turkey have been granted refugee status by the UNHCR and will be arriving this afternoon, February 16th 2012 at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport.

Among the fourteen individuals who are arriving today as permanent residents of Canada are Mahtab and Saleh, who until a year ago were at risk of deportation when IRQR campaigned protection for them. Due to your support and with the collaboration of the UNHCR we were able to help them to build a new life in Canada as free individuals. IRQR provided monthly financial aid to Mahtab and Saleh for the past year from your donations that we received during the campaign.

We would like to thank you again for your support and we hope to continue to receive your generosity in order to help all Iranian queer refugees to gain their freedom. If you are interested to get involved and support Iranian queer asylum seekers/refugees who are in need, please contact us at info@irqr.net
