Regarding Obama’s 2012 Victory

As much as the USA is divided politically it is also, ‘ultimately for now’, dominated by the smart people who do have more money, influence and positive attitudes toward diversity. Obama garnered 306 electoral votes with a slight majority of the popular vote, and Romney got 206 votes and almost half the voters. Obama was indeed the winner with the backing of the ‘smart states’ and their tolerant citizens. Not much of a margin of victory in numbers but crucially a big step in social evolution, led by the victory of an openly gay lesbian Tammy Baldwin for a Wisconsin senate seat over an anti-gay Tea Party fundamentalist candidate. This is, for our LGBT national community, a symbolic achievement as important as Obama’s re-election.
