(JollofNews) – Gambian president Yahya Jammeh has yesterday renewed his attacks on homosexuality which he described as an abomination.
Jammeh who had previously threatened to behead gays and lesbians in the country said he will not allow any gay and lesbian relations in the Gambia as long as he remains president.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of his newly appointed cabinet ministers, Mr Jammeh described homosexuality as an alien norm that is being imposed on Africans by the West in the name of freedom and rights. He said while he remains president, Gambians will live and behave according to the Gambian and African cultural norms and nurture faith in the supremacy of God.
“If we Africans are to build our societies based on outside dictates and structure our cultures based on alien cultures, we will be the losers. But if they think they can sit there and dictate us how we should live, the Gambia will be the exception,” Mr Jammeh said.
He added that the cultural and religious values of Gambians will not be compromised as both the Qur’an and Bible are against same sex marriages.
“It’s not in the Bible or Qur’an. It’s an abomination. I am telling you this because the new wave of evil that they want to impose on us will not be accepted in this country,” he said.
“As long as I am the president, I am not going to accept it in my government and in this country. We know what human rights are. Human beings of the same sex cannot marry or date – we are not from evolution but we are from creation and we know the beginning of creation – that was Adam and Eve.
“Did God make mistake? No! If you think it is human right to destroy our culture, you are making a mistake because if you are in Gambia, you are in the wrong place. Discipline based on our tradition will be enforced to the letter.”
