Young Chinese people living in urban areas have never had it so good. They have better access to education and healthcare services, and a higher quality of life overall. But authorities are alarmed by one statistic: rates of HIV among young people aged 15-19 have tripled over the past decade. While China’s youth have become increasingly liberal, sex education lags far behind. Meanwhile, a persistent stigma around homosexuality means gay men are particularly at risk.
