Exhibition is latest success in equal rights group iSEE’s work supporting LGBT people in Vietnam
A photography exhibition celebrating same-sex love has attracted thousands of visitors in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The exhibition entitled Open – Equal – Love features work by Vietnamese photographer Maika Elan (see some of her photographs on a New York Times blog) and was organized by Vietnamese LGBT rights campaigners Institute of Society, Economy and Environment (iSEE).
Around 2,000 people have visited the exhibition since it opened at the end of last month and the reactions to the photographs have been overwhelmingly positive.
‘To many people, this is the first time they have seen images and got information about homosexuals in public,’ iSEE communication officer Vu Phuong Thao told Gay Star News.
‘Staff at the exhibition have seen no-one openly reject the exhibition or show a negative attitude towards the photographs.’
iSEE are part-funded by the Australian government. The organization’s work includes research, campaigning for gay marriage, educating the media on LGBT issues and flashmobs.
The Open – Equal – Love is showing until tomorrow, Saturday 12 January at Vincom Tower ground, 191 Ba Trieu, Hanoi, Vietnam.
