A new poll has found that a majority of Irish people still support the right of gay and lesbian couples to get married.
According to a recent Red C poll for Irish broadcasters RTE, 76% of people in Ireland believe that marriages between same-sex couples should be legally recognised.
The poll was published in the same week that Graham Norton slammed RTE for paying €85,000 in damages to a Catholic anti-gay marriage group.
Around 5% of voters were undecided on the issue and only 19% opposed the law reform.
The results of this recent poll are near-identical to that of a Red C poll for Paddy Power last year, which found that found that 76% were in favour, 18% were opposed, and 6.5% were undecided.
In April 2013, Ireland’s Constitutional Convention recommended that Ireland’s constitution be changed to allow same-sex couples to marry and have the same legal rights as the rest of the population.
