We wish we were there
Malta Pride festivities culminated in the annual parade taking to the streets today (15 September).
Tourists and locals alike have invaded the capital Valletta for a march of celebration and protest.
Although being celebrated every year, this 2018 parade holds a special significance. It takes place despite a demonstration organized by Catholic group Pro Malta Christiana on 14 September. According to the organizers, its aim was to ask for ‘reparation against Malta Pride and the LGBT agenda’.
However, the extremist group’s anti-LGBTI attitude didn’t put off the revelers.
People, in fact, unapologetically waved the rainbow flags in a pleasantly sunny and warm afternoon in the capital.
After kicking off in Triton’s Square at 4:30pm, the route followed the historical center of the city. Contingents and floats also passed by Castille Square.
As usual, the annual concert will take place in the dedicated area in Herbert Ganado Gardens.
Following the march, Karma B and Clinton Paul will perform. Danica and Davinia will also take the stage later tonight.
