Dundee welcomes first ever Pride

The first ever Dundee Pride is due to get underway for a day-long celebration of Scotland’s LGBTI community

The East Coast of Scotland will be breaking out the rainbow flags this weekend as celebrations start for the first ever Dundee Pride.

Officiated over by local drag star Buschie Fandango, the event will kick off on Saturday morning and run throughout the day.

The event will involve a parade and festival in Dundee’s City Square, with festivities taking place outside the city’s iconic Caird Hall.

For those who looking for a nostalgia fix, the stage performance will feature 90s dance sensation Rozalla (singer of Everybody’s Free), along with Sean Smith and Allan Jay.

The city is also expecting to see over 3,000 people taking part in the traditional march, according to Pink Saltire.

Dundee Pride will be officially opened by one of Scotland’s most prominent LGBTI politicians, Member of Scottish Parliment Joe FitzPatrick.

LGBTI venues around the city will also be gearing up for the celebrations.

Local LGBTI bars POUT and Klozet have special guests in attendance, including Charlie Hides from Ru Paul’s Drag Race, Livin Joy, Cher In Drag, Nick Shane, Miss Tish Ewe, Reba Martell, Ginger Rogers and Just Jesse.

The Dundee University Students Association will also be hosting a Pride Afterparty.

The Pride march will get underway at 12pm on Dundee’s High Street in the city center, with the festival kicking off at around 1pm.
