In Gibraltar, male homosexuality has been legal since 1993. The age of consent is 16 for heterosexual and female homosexual acts, while the age of consent for male homosexual acts is maintained at 18. There is presently an inequality between English law and that of its Overseas Territories, particularly in respect of Gibraltar, which joined the EU under the British accession and is bound by EU requirements.

 

 

Gibraltar approves same-sex marriage

Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory on Spain’s south coast, with a population of 30,000. Gibraltar approves civil partnerships bill

A bill legalising civil partnerships for same-sex couples in Gibraltar has been approved by the island’s Parliament. Campaigners have welcomed the decision, describing it as an important step towards equality.
